Presidents Message – Carrick 21st September 2019

President’s message-  Ardrossan vs Carrick RFC, Saturday 21st September

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Carrick RFC and their supporters to Memorial Field for the Tennent’s National League Division 3 game.

In the first league game of the season, a couple of weeks ago, Carrick had a narrow away defeat and then, unfortunately, did not have a game last week as Caithness could not fulfil the fixture. I’m sure they will be disappointed with that, and will looking forward to get back to playing and will be hoping to get a result over us. Whatever the result today, I would like to wish Carrrick RFC all the best for the season ahead.

For Ardrossan, we are hoping to build on a super start to the season with 3 good victories in league and cup. To obtain bonus points in our first 2 league games is very pleasing and we will be hoping to continue this today. Hopefully, we will see some players returning, which will also be good news for the 2nd XV.

Our 2nd XV are away to East Kilbride/Cambuslang and our Ladies play Greenock away. Good luck to those teams and all youth teams this weekend.

I would like to thank our match sponsors for the game today, Central Car Auctions, Paul Stevenson Funeral Directors and J.D Bannatyne and Campbell for their continued support, and to David Hogarth for sponsoring today’s match ball. Thanks again, it is greatly appreciated and the club is very grateful to all of our sponsors for their support.

The Rugby World Cup has now kicked off and the bar has an extended license for early morning kick offs. Scotland also plays their first game tomorrow, Sunday 22nd at 8:45am, versus Ireland, which is an extremely important game in a tough pool. It would be great to see people down at the club to enjoy the games, new and old faces, so please come along.

I hope you all have an enjoyable day and may the best team win.

President’s Message – Perthshire 14th September

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Bob Lindsay, George Clunie , the players of Perthshire RFC and their supporters to Memorial Field for the Tennent’s National League Division 3 game.

In the first league game of the season, last week, Perthshire had a narrow home defeat to Greenock. I’m sure they will be disappointed with that result and will looking to bounce back from that and, so, we expect a tough game today against a team we know well from our encounters over the last few seasons. Whatever the result today, I would like to wish Perthshire RFC all the best for the season ahead.

For Ardrossan, we are hoping to build on a good start to the season with our victories over Berwick (National league cup) and away to Caithness (league). To obtain a bonus point was a great start to the season and it is hoped that we kick on from that. Unfortunately, we have lost a couple of players, Bruce Hunter and Euan Thomson, to injury in the first couple of games and I wish them a speedy recovery.

Today is our first sponsor’s day of the new season, which gives us a chance to thank all of our programme and ball sponsors for their support of the club. I would like to thank them for their continued support and hope that those that manage along enjoy the day and, most importantly, the game. It would be great to see you down throughout the season.

Our match sponsors for the game today are The Kandy Bar, Digby Brown and James Frew Ltd and our ball sponsor is Owen Phillips. Thanks again, it is greatly appreciated and the club is very grateful to all of our sponsors for their support.

As I mentioned in my message for the Berwick game, the Rugby World Cup is starting on September 20th and the bar has an extended license for early morning kick offs. You will see below one of the games highlighted with breakfast + a pint for £5. This coincides with a home game against Carrick that day, so why not start early and enjoy your day at the club. Scotland also plays their first game on Sunday 22nd at 8:45am versus Ireland. It would be great to see people down at the club to enjoy the games, new and old faces, so please come along.

Presidents Message – Berwick 31st August

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Berwick RFC and their supporters to Memorial Field for the National League Cup game.

Berwick had a fantastic season just past, winning both the Tennents East Region League Division 1 and the National Shield, and have thus gained promotion to National 3 this season. Although this is the first game of the season, this game today will possibly provide both teams with some insight to what challenges lie ahead for the coming season. Whatever the result today, I would like to wish Berwick all the best for the season ahead.

For Ardrossan Academicals, we are hoping to build on last season’s 3rd placed finish and push for promotion. We have a couple of new additions to the squad and we are pleased at retaining the remainder of the team, so we feel we are in a good place to achieve our aims for the season. Our preseason has been good with excellent wins over Ayr and Irvine and we had a really good training session at Inverclyde sports centre last Saturday, which we are hoping to use for training and potentially a game over the season.

I would like to thank our match sponsors for the game, Jas Campbell and Co., Right Cars and Sunnyside Nurseries for their continued support, and to Willie Gibson for sponsoring today’s match ball. It is greatly appreciated and the club is very grateful to all of our sponsors for their support. Our sponsors’ day is September 14th versus Perthshire and I would like to invite all sponsors, including ball sponsors, to this, starting from 1:30pm for a 3pm kick off.

I would also like to thank our members for their continued support and it would be great to see you all down supporting all sections of the club this season.

As you know the Rugby World Cup is starting on September 20th and the bar has an extended license for early morning kick offs. You will see below one of the games highlighted with breakfast + a pint for £5. Scotland also plays their first game on Sunday 22nd at 8:45am versus Ireland. Club Presidents

As we approach the end of the season it is time to say thank you to our outgoing co-presidents, Ian Hunter and Brian Campbell.
Both have worked very hard over the last two years for the club, giving up their own time to ensure the club has a better future.
A great deal of what they did is not acknowledged, however both have achieved what every president aims for. The club is now in a better position than when they took office.
I hope everyone will join me in thanking both Ian and Brian for all of their hard work.

Welcome to our new president and vice-president, Peter Gossman and Dougie Tyler.
Both are lifelong Accies with a long family history with the club. They will build on the work of their predecessors taking the club forward.
I know everyone will join me in wishing them good luck and offering them support to ensure the success of the club.

Game Day – Presidents Message

Saturday 26 th January 2019 Scottish National League Division 3

Ardrossan Academicals R.F.C v Carrick R. F.C.
Memorial Field K.O. 2.00 p.m.

Our visitors today proved to be a very stern opposition in the reverse fixture at Maybole in what
were pretty trying conditions and won 9-3, all of the points being kicked. Carrick will no doubt prove
to be no lesser a test today with conditions forecast to be similar to the first contest. They are of
strong agricultural stock the kind of team that the Accies find hard to play against. We have to hope
that Ardrossan win enough possession to utilise their, undeniable attractive running game.
Returning this week are Nathan Welsh to the back row after an absence through work and holiday,
so Scott Campbell returns to the hooker berth and Logan Maxwell is on the bench. There we also
find Gordon Telfer returning from work commitments and Robert Hunter easing back in after a
broken nose, all of the bench are capable of making an impact.
There should be plenty to entertain the spectators, if Accies are to keep up any pressure on the
teams at the top of the league they need to produce a strong, composed and disciplined
performance after last week’s victory at St. Boswells.
Our Seconds travel to Maybole to play Carrick’s second string in a league encounter and we hope for
success there also
The Club Burns Supper is coming up on the 23 rd of February and it looks like this sell out function is
shaping up to be a great night for everyone, watch this space for further social events at the Club.
Alan Merry is currently working hard putting together this year’s Real Ale Festival focused around
the last weekend in June ( 27 th -29 th )-there will be a marquee with music provided by Ardrossan Music
Experience on the Saturday, one for the diary.
Today’s match ball sponsor is past president, Mr. Kandy Bar Stevie McAllister, many thanks for your
generous and continuing support(well done on the pie championships as well).

So everyone have great day with your friends at Memorial field and show respect to everyone
involved in the making the day happen.

Ian Hunter, Co-President,
Ardrossan Academicals R.F.C.

Ball Sponsor

This week’s ball sponsor is Stevie McAllister, Past President, former player and long term supporter of our Club.

Thank you Stevie for your continued support.
