U13 Match Reports

Sunday 2nd October

Ardrossan U13s v Marr U13s

Fantastic weather for rugby to be played and both teams did not disappoint. Straight from the kick off our boys were extremely physical at the breakdown our discipline around the ruck is what won us 75% of the penalties and we took advantage of our quick taps exploiting the tight marr defence with evasive running at almost every turn. For Marr who also played almost similar play to us spreading the ball wide and using those fast players to get around and behind us. It was Marr who drew first blood but our boys bounced back and setting the standard high throughout the game with superb offloading in behind the defence to score more than a few tries. Unfortunately that was not enough as Marr had stuck in a few try in the last minute of the game.
Excellent game for our U13s who played Marr earlier in the season they did extremely well to compete with a team with a lot of preparation and big pool of players. The boys are growing from strength to strength and its great to see the boys bond as a team.
Special thanks to the catering staff, Marr for coming along and all the boys who made the effort to show up
No game this Sunday so we will have a small training session.

Cheers guys

Sunday 25th September

Kilmarnock RFC v Ardrossan Accies RFC

This weekend saw the Ardrossan U13s team playing against the Kilmarnock U13 side away from home. The game started off with a good play from the Kilmarnock side causing them to get the first points in the game. This didn’t dishearten the Ardrossan boys though as they came back to score almost instantly. The game continued on with this trend until eventually a good steal from Kilmarnock put them ahead by two tries. At half time the Ardrossan side were only down by only a few tries which meant there were some frustrated Accies

The second half kicked off the game now being brought up to a full 15 players on the field the Ardrossan side came out strong putting in some great hits and good rucking, however putting too many men into the ruck had given Kilmarnock the overlap and they scored under the posts. Ardrossan came out strong and put their bodies on the line with some tremendous hits that even caused the Kilmarnock boys to drop the ball. After a very unlucky second half from Ardrossan, the Kilmarnock side came out on top with the win.

Overall a good game from both teams with some real competitive rugby being played. A special thanks goes out to the few Kilmarnock boys who came over to play for us to make the second half 15 a-side.

Sunday 18th September
Ardrossan Accies RFC v Irvine RFC
Full time: 12 tries – 7 tries

This week saw the U13s host local rivals Irvine rugby club. An impressive turn out for the the squad with 11 boys turning up for the game considering we only had 7 last time! Due to our opponents having a depleted squad we played a reduced format which lead to a half pitch 7 a side game of rugby. As the game kicked off the boys continued to build on the success of the previous games against Birkmyre and Marr with excellent running rugby on display. All the boys put in a great shift with new recruits Zander, Dylan and Jordan making their debuts. The game featured some brilliant individual performances from everyone. Eben took the ball at pace and worked his way in behind the defence to pop the ball to our lightening fast speedsters Martin and Andrew. There was some great distribution from our half backs Adam Monaghan and Callum Bowie who’s work on and off the ball made them the stand out performers. Lastly who can forget our star duo Logan and Lachlan who definitely continued to build from the last game showing some great footwork in attack and impressive strength in defence holding up at least 3 tries! With the game coming coming to a close our first win finally came with the Accies winning 12 try’s to Irvine’s 7. Special thanks to all the catering staff for all there donations. Our opponents Irvine for coming to Memorial Field and a big congratulations too all the boys who are all continually improving and developing into a fine rugby playing side.
See you all Wednesday!

Ardrossan U13s v Birkmyre U13s
11/09/2016

Today Memorial Field witnessed the first home game for a separate U13s team this season. Due to a lack of players the game looked in doubt, but Birkmyre were more than happy to lend us some players so that the game could go ahead. The match was played over 5 periods of 10 minutes, which allowed plenty of time for the boys to put into practice the skills they’ve worked on over the past week in training. Straight from kick-off the supporters witnessed a superb effort from the forwards winning almost every contact. They were defensively solid with Lachlan and Logan tackling anything and everything, and it was great to see Eben playing an excellent role distributing the ball and carrying hard. Today also saw the return of Dimir, who played a blinder on the wing reminding us all a bit of the famous Jonah Lomu with his excellent ball carrying and offloading game – it’s great to have him back. Unfortunately, our full back Cameron suffered a head knock early on and had to be taken off as a precaution. Our star fly half Adam Monaghan set the tempo with some excellent support and a natural link with our scum half Callum Bowie, who was more than competent at the breakdown and set the pace of the game. The match can only be described as an absolute try fest for both sides and was a spectacular game to watch with some great displays of skill on show. Try of the match for me goes to Dimir, who finished off an excellent team effort which featured some great interplay between all the players.
Special thanks to our opposition Birkmyre for lending us some players and as always our manager Ali Cairns and the team of parents who provided the after match food. Lastly, a special mention to the referee Finlay who had a great game on his debut as a ref.
Well done to all.
