Youth Round Up 18th September

Youth round up for 18th September

by Murray Grayston

The U13s had the pleasure of hosting local rivals Irvine Rugby Club this weekend! Also a much improved turn out this week saw the number boosted from 7 to 11 for the game which helped build on the success of the previous week’s game. Overall the boys put in a great shift and played some fine attacking rugby to show the Irvine team how we do it in Ardrossan running out eventual winners with 12 tries to 7 in reply. Special thanks again to all who helped with catering for this home game and to both sets of boys from both teams for their continued efforts and commitment. Here’s hoping this trend of good performances and improvement continues as the hard work at training continues!

Paisley came down to the Memorial Field this weekend to face what was a very in-form Accies team in traitorous conditions. Despite the weather the Accies saw a fantastic turnout this weekend and went into the game with a strong squad of 16. However, due to Paisley’s lack of numbers, the boys still didn’t get their first full 15-a-side game of rugby this season. The match itself was a masterclass in defensive rugby by the Accies and also how to attack when the conditions aren’t on your side. All of these factors helped the Accies to a very impressive 57-12 victory which was a great credit to the boy’s efforts. Also a special mention to the boys who helped out Paisley by playing a half of rugby for them and to the off field maestros who made sure the post-match formalities ran as smoothly and as well as ever.

The U16s hosted Bishopton/Garnock this weekend at the Memorial Field, after having no fixture last weekend, in what at times were very wet conditions. This lead to a lack of opportunities in key areas for the Accies and overall a one sided final score line. However, there were several positives to be taken out of the game for the boys and there was by no means a lack of effort on any part with the boys showing a fantastic never say die attitude. With hard training and effort improved results will be inevitable for this team. Yet again a huge thanks to all the boys for a fantastic effort and all the parents who helped everyone run smoothly – including stand in coach Peter Campbell!
