Youth report 1st October

Marr came to the Memorial fields this weekend in what was a wonderful day for rugby – and neither team disappointed. The Accies showed great work and physicality at the breakdown, winning several penalties, and took advantage of them with some great evasive running. However, it was Marr who drew first blood in the game. The boys came back well though and if it were not for a few late tries would have won the game. An excellent effort against a strong Marr team with a large pool of players. A huge well done to the boys and a special thanks to the catering staff who were great as usual!

A long trip for the boys this weekend – made even longer by some poor navigation by Accies coach – took the boys down the Wigton to face Newton Stewart. Sadly due to low numbers this game was played as a development game due to a lack of numbers on the Accies part. However, the first period (of three 20 minute thirds) ended with the Accies in the lead after a great half playing some really impressive rugby. The final period also saw the Accies taking the game to their hosts but sadly the 20 minutes in-between seemed to cost them as they lost out by the narrowest of margins. A big well done to the lads who always seem to underestimate themselves every week and then continue to prove themselves wrong! Also thanks to Newton Stewart for their hospitality and lastly the bus driver for putting up with Scott’s navigation!

The Accies headed to Stewarty for this week’s fixture on a lovely, crisp autumn day. Sadly a very disappointing turnout for the second week in a row saw only 9 fit players make the trip – out of a pool of 25 players! The game itself saw Stewarty give us a man to ensure contested 5 man scrums so a huge thanks for that. Sadly the result was a bit of a rout with Stewarty seeming to score at will and the game was all over at half time. However, the boys choose not to mix the teams for the second half and instead took a few more Stewarty players to make up a 13-a-side game. The second half also resulted in a fantastic consolation try with our new recruits for the day standing watching from their wing, showing what this team can really do! This result shouldn’t dishearten the boys as this is a very good and well drilled side we faced. Big thanks to Stewarty for their post-game hospitality. Finally, let’s get all the boys down to training, start working hard and the results will come!
