Youth Round-Up 25th September

Youth report 25th September

Minis and Micros

The young Accies had two games this week, on Friday and Sunday – and what an experience Friday night was! 10 young Accies p4/5’s took on Scotstoun Stadium in a pre-warriors-game tournament. The tournament consisted of two groups the winners of each going on to contest the final. After a show of tremendous team effort the Accies won every one of their 3 group games and went on to play GHA in the final – a side consisting of children of many ex-Scotland internationals. In the end it was the Accies who were victorious of course! Outstanding effort and a complete team performance, well done Accies!

The Sunday brought fixtures at Ayr who were co-hosting Stewarty on the day to ensure maximum playing time for all. There was several fixtures across the day ranging from p1-7 level. All of the games were very closely contested and were decided by a few tries either way. Overall the games were played to a very high standard and another excellent effort from all involved!

U13s

This weekend saw the U13s travel to Kilmarnock for their game. Kilmarnock started well resulting in them pushing ahead but the Accies weren’t disheartened and they came back almost immediately. This trend continued till Kilmarnock scored from a steal to increase the margin going into the half. The second half saw a full 15 a side game which was a great experience for everyone. In the end the Accies were very unlucky and lost the game. A special thanks to Kilmarnock for giving us some players so that full 15’s rugby could be played.

U14s

The U14s travelled to Irvine for games which consisted of mixed teams of age groups from U13’s to 15’s. The Accies first match was against a combined Stewarty/Irvine U13/14’s team. The Accies were on the back foot from the right off and with the boys struggling at ruck time they were made to pay. Despite a turnaround back to usual standards for the last 5 the Accies had left it too late and Stewarty/Irvine had won.

The second game was an U14/15’s game and saw the Accies join up with previous opponents Stewarty to face Irvine’s U15’s. In the game the joined team deserve a lot of credit for how they frustrated their bigger opponents, they almost fared better than they did in the previous game! In the end the boys lost 5-2 but the effort and commitment shown was admirable. A lot of positives and a few points of improvement for the Accies but all in all a fantastic effort again.

U16s

Sadly as only 12 players made the trip to Kilmarnock this weekend this fixture cold only be played as a development game. Sadly despite the surprisingly good conditions the Accies struggled to get a hold on the game and the scoreboard kept ticking over in Kilmarnock’s favour. It was a brave effort from the Accies on the day and they kept their discipline well in a game which saw Kilmarnock receive 2 yellow cards. Despite the poor score plaudits must go to the Accies for their effort and attitude shown commendably by MotM Owen Phillips. Well done boys and a special thank you to Kilmarnock for their post-match hospitality.

U18s

The U18’s hosted Glasgow Hawks in this weekend’s fixture. Despite a few new (and somewhat familiar) faces the Accies could only field 14 players for the game and the Hawks were full strength for the game – so the Accies were at a disadvantage from the start against an already impressive looking team. Sadly the Accies also struggled with the poor conditions and with a few regulars missing and fell behind early. The first half was kept tight but second half a poor spell made the score line somewhat unfair on the boys. The full time score being 50-7 to the hawks. Great effort from all the lads and tremendous spirit was shown throughout. Also a thanks to all the parents who helped with the hospitality after the game which was as good as ever!
